The Bookshop That Opens With the Boats

In a harbour town that sends its boats out at five, the only shop with a light on sells poetry, tide tables and a loaf that takes two days to make.

Margo Teale has run Teale and Daughter Books since 1998 and baked in the back of it since 2009. The light comes on at twenty past five, ten minutes before the first engine in the harbour. Ines Calloway spent a morning there, standing up, and left with half a loaf and a poetry collection she had not meant to buy.

From the editor

Three stories this week, none of them about a place you can get to before seven. That is on purpose. Reply to this email and tell us the earliest shop you know of; we will visit the best answer.
